Alaskan grown Janie Cowan is in love with the double bass.  Beginning the Suzuki method at age four and then finding the double bass at ten, she pursued all avenues of study available and eventually won a scholarship to attend the Oberlin Conservatory.  There she learned from such luminaries as Jamey Haddad, Eddie Gomez and Billy Hart. She has now accrued a vast and diverse resume of performances with various international folk musicians, desert rockers, songwriters, ambient sonic explorers and as a solo artist.  She has been lucky to share the stage with such luminaries as Bennie Maupin in Adam Rudolph's Go: Organic Orchestra, Bob Dylan in Shadow Kingdom, Victoria Williams and late great saxophone legend Ralph Carney.  Residing in Pioneertown, California, Janie is proud to be part of the high desert experimental music community.  She continues a multi year residency with her instrumental duo Sister John Angela Fridays 7-9 at Giant Rock Meeting Room in Joshua Tree.

Having made appearances on Dutch and Hungarian national TV, Bulgarian National Radio, NPR and BBC 1, she has reaches worldwide.  You will find her contented busking on the streets, playing for dancers, doom metal festivals, sold out venues like Irving Plaza or the 100 Club, The Continental Club, the Rothko Chapel, in a cave, or in your living room.
